Reverse proxies function as intermediaries between a client and a backend server, providing a range of services such as security, load balancing, caching, and more.

One of the significant advantages of using a reverse proxy is the ability to bypass the OpenAI API key requirement.

Typically, when accessing AI tools like Janitor AI, users need to obtain their own API key, which requires authentication and authorization to access the backend server.

However, by rerouting the requests through a reverse proxy that possesses a valid API key, users can avoid the need to manage their own keys.

Now, some Janitor AI users are having issues with Pawan OpenAI API free reverse proxy as it’s down or not working (1,2,3,4,5).

The affected users have reportedly been receiving an error message in Janitor AI that states, ‘undefined – Please wait a few minutes then try again. If the problem persists, please contact us on Discord’.

This problem seems to specifically occur when users either use the Pawan reverse proxy to chat in Janitor AI or when new users attempt to add it to their setup.

Apparently this issue has been going on for the past week without any fix.

Initially, users were presented with a ‘This API is under maintenance’ prompt, but since then, the proxy has been experiencing further problems.

Allegedly, the Pawan proxy team is actively working to address and resolve these issues.

Moreover, it is worth noting that using third-party proxies, such as Pawan, can carry inherent risks. Recent incidents have highlighted concerns regarding the privacy and security of user data.

In one case, Moxxie proxy users’ chat logs and IP addresses were leaked on a Google spreadsheet, which was subsequently shared on 4Chan.

This incident emphasizes the importance of considering the trustworthiness and security measures implemented by the provider when utilizing any reverse proxy or third-party service.
