Google Chrome is a popular web browser used by millions of people around the world. However, like any software, it can also sometimes encounter issues.

Recently, some users reported ‘HAR files import’ bug that surfaced after v114 update. And now, another issue has popped up which is again ruining the user experience.

Google Chrome ‘Aw Snap! Error code: Out of Memory’ troubling some users

Some Google Chrome users are reporting (1, 2, 3) that they are getting ‘Aw Snap! Error code: Out of Memory’ message while browsing some websites.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time this error has occurred, reports (1, 2) of it have been surfacing for several weeks now. Affected users have expressed frustration over encountering this error.

I have tried clearing my cache, restarting my pc, reinstalling chrome, turning hardware acceleration off and restarting the page whenever this shows up and there’s no difference. It happens whenever I open amazon and YouTube. I need help. (Source)

I am currently experiecning this issue with youtube and memory usage is 6.6GB, opening youtube or booking causes the tab to keep increasing it’s memory usage until the entire 16GB of RAM is used, and then the tab gives an out of memory error, and RAM frees up. The pages are unresponsive in this time. Any solutions? (Source)

Unfortunately, Google has not yet officially acknowledged the bug, leaving users searching for a solution on their own. Thankfully, one of those affected has found a solution to this bug.

According to them, disabling McAfee WebAdvisor fixes this glitch. McAfee WebAdvisor is an anti-virus web extension that provides additional security while browsing the internet.

It seems that this software is causing this glitch, so if you have McAfee WebAdvisor installed on your Google Chrome, then you should try disabling it.

Disabling McAfee WebAdvisor worked for me also. Which is weird, because I’ve had the extension on Chrome for years with no problem. The error just started recently. (Source)
