Google Pixel Tablet huge price difference in the US & other markets (Canada, UK & Europe) draws criticism

Google recently launched the Pixel tablet, which was first announced at the Google I/O keynote in May 2022 and is now available to buy in markets across the US, Canada, Europe and Asia.

The Google Tensor G2 CPU powers this device, which has a 10.95-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. The Tablet also features 8GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 128GB or 256GB.

However, customers in Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe in general are dissatisfied with the pricing, particularly in comparison to what their American counterparts pay for the same device.

This discrepancy in pricing has sparked discussions and raised concerns among potential customers (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10).

In the United States, the Pixel Tablet is priced at $499. While in the UK and Europe, it costs £599 and €679, respectively. Notably, this disparity in pricing is quite high when compared to the launch prices of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

For instance, both devices cost $599 and $899 in America, £599 and £849 in the UK, and €649 and €899 in the European markets. Some argue that the variations could be due to different factors, such as warranties and taxes.

It does, however, raise the question of whether the Pixel phones are subject to the same taxes and warranty concerns or not.

One of those affected says that they have been eagerly awaiting the Tablet’s release in the UK. However, they are utterly shocked to discover that the price in the UK is nearly £200 higher.

Another user asserts that they will not purchase this device until the company provides an explanation for the price disparity.

When it was first announced at last year’s I/O I thought it was a great idea and was definitely going to buy one – my first tablet since the unbelievable Nexus 7! But £599!? With no preorder bonus or anything? That’s just a deal-breaker.

Some are now even thinking of cancelling their existing orders as well.

Potential reason for the price gap

An affected user claims to have contacted customer care in this regard. And they have stated that the value of the product completely depends on various factors like country, currency value, and demand for the product.

They also mention that the marketing team is in charge of determining the device’s final price.

However, you need not to be worried about this for long as Google often discounts the prices of their products shortly after launch.
