Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) crashing on portals after Necrom update for some (potential workarounds)
ZeniMax Online Studios recently released update 38 for Elder Scrolls Online on Windows that brings bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and new features to the game.
The patch also introduces the Necrom chapter, two new zones, Telvanni Peninsula and Apocrypha, and a brand-new class, the Arcanist.
In addition to this, one can now also choose their favorite collectibles and have them appear at the top of the Collections UI. However, some are witnessing issues after installing the recent update.
Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) crashing on portals
Gamers complain that this happens when one tries to target a portal and hovers over an invalid destination. Green flashes of Arcanists playing with skills have also been observed before the crashes.
Players are facing such problems when casting the portal skill or trying to port over a gap or a low barrier. In addition to this, some are even witnessing issues with sound effect playback and random stuttering.
And to make matters worse, one needs to forcefully close the game from the Windows Task Manager after it freezes.
One of those impacted claims to have experienced crashing problems twice after installing the latest update. But luckily, the frequency of crashes is not so high that they have to disable any addons.
Another gamer is experiencing this problem whenever they sign in with their main character. They also assert that they do not face such hiccups when trying to do so with their other 17 characters.
Hi all, are you experiencing random crashes of the game? Game just freezes for some reason and only way to exit is to kill ESO in task manager. I’m on PC/EU server.
Has the Arcanist been causing crashes for anyone else, or is it just me?
It’s also worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Elder Scrolls Online players have witnessed such an issue. Those affected are now requesting the developers to fix this glitch as soon as possible.
Luckily, we did come across some potential workarounds that might help solve your problem. Firstly, it is recommended that you turn off any enabled addons.
We also advise that you keep them disabled after installing any major content update.
Those who are experiencing crashes when aiming at portals are cautioned not to shoot through or towards some barriers, especially the ones that are formed of metal bars, to avoid crashing.
We do hope that ZeniMax Online Studios will address this problem shortly.
We’ll keep tabs on the issue where Elder Scrolls Online keeps crashing on portals and update you.
