New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 9, 2023) follows:

Alaska Airlines is one of the most popular airlines in America. The company has decades of service to millions of people on thousands of flights.

That said, currently many Alaska Airlines users are upset due to a big system outage that is causing significant delays to their flights.

Alaska Airlines outage (system down or not working) causing flight delays

According to multiple reports, Alaska Airlines systems are currently down or not working. Due to this, the mandatory checks before boarding a flight cannot be carried out.

Then, the flights are stopped waiting for the systems to work correctly again.

At the airport w two kids and @AlaskaAir has a system wide outage. Flight delayed. Why do I feel like all airline tech is duct taped together and riddled with tech debt. Should be paying top dollar for best people. Every outage has got to be 8 or 9 figures in losses.

Already delayed an hour in DFW!!! This better not be another meltdown like Southwest Airlines had

The situation is somewhat reminiscent of the big FAA ‘NOTAM’ system outage, which also caused many pending flights to be grounded.

Let’s hope that this new outage on a major airline will be of less scope and won’t last long. After all, there are thousands of people hoping not to miss their flights right now.

Currently, some people have been waiting for at least an hour for the system to be restored. The issue can be especially delicate for those with scheduled emergency flights.

real question: how much longer will there be an outage? We’re on hour # 2 at DFW and I’m not sure if I have time to run 8 gates down to Starbucks for matcha🍵

Sadly, there still doesn’t seem to be an official acknowledgment of this issue from the Alaska Airlines team. This fuels anxiety and doubt among customers who are waiting for news about their flights.

Some people are trying to take the situation with “humor” making fun of the company’s silence in the face of such a delicate problem:

Apparently the @AlaskaAirsocial team is also affected by the nationwide outage grounding flights @ap @cbschicago

We will be monitoring the situation to update this story as events unfold.

Update 1 (June 9, 2023)

05:50 pm (IST): The Alaska Airlines support team has finally started responding to some users. However, they only confirmed the flight delays due to the outage system, but not an ETA for a fix.

We are delayed due to a system outage. Once the airport gets back up they will start making announcements.
