New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 5, 2023) follows:

In the realm of digital entertainment, streaming services have revolutionized the way we engage with shows and movies. These platforms constantly strive to enhance user experiences, and MAX is no exception.

However, that doesn’t mean that the platform is immune to various bugs and issues.

For instance, we recently covered the issues where the HBO Max button on the Android TV remote was not working and the MAX ‘shuffle button’ was missing.

Now, some are experiencing difficulties using the ‘Continue Watching’ feature.

Max app ‘Continue Watching’ feature is not working since rebranding

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple Max users are facing an issue where the ‘Continue Watching’ feature is not working.

As per the claims, the app does not save one’s watch history, making it difficult for one to resume their favorite shows or movies.

Users assert that they have to manually write down program information like the episode number and timestamp every time they stop watching it.

Allegedly, the problem has been persistent ever since the rebranding and remains unresolved until now. However, some are that frustrated and annoyed because of this glitch that they have cancelled their subscription.

One of those affected says that the app keeps restarting the playback of the same episode time and again. To get rid of this problem, they have to manually forward the episode.

However, their troubles don’t end here. They also allege that the app resets the settings for ‘English Audio Description’ whenever they switch to the next episode.

I love HBO. Why did they do this? I have to write down the episode number and timestamp every time I stop watching. I can’t see my most recently watched. Unsubscribed until service improves.

The app can’t keep track of the episodes I watched. Anyone had this issue? This happened after they switched away from hbo.

Another user complains that that app moves them back to the first season whenever they complete watching half portion of a series.

Sadly, common troubleshooting steps like creating a new profile, updating the app, and uninstalling and reinstalling it could not help solve the users’ problems.

Subscribers are now requesting the developers to fix this glitch as soon as possible so that they can easily keep track of and resume the shows or movies they were watching previously.

Potential workarounds

Fortunately, we did come across some potential workarounds that might help solve your problem. Firstly, it is recommended that you try closing and reopening the Max app.

If that doesn’t help you get rid of the issue, then you can try pressing the back button to get the ‘Continue Watching’ screen. With an additional back press, you can get the correct program and episode information displayed under it.

It’s also quite possible that a VPN extension that you are using is preventing your viewing progress from being recorded. So, it is advised that you disable any active VPN add-ons.

That said, we do hope that Max will address this issue shortly.

In the meantime, we will keep tabs on the issue where the Continue Watching feature is not working in Max and update you.

Update 1 (June 7, 2023)

04:46 pm (IST): Unfortunately, the Max app ‘Continue Watching’ feature still does not work properly (1, 2, 3).

Update 2 (June 8, 2023)

05:13 pm (IST): The fact that the ‘Continue Watching’ Max app is not working since the service transition and there is still not even an official acknowledgment has several users furious (1, 2, 3).

Update 3 (June 9, 2023)

04:23 pm (IST): Apparently, there are some shows where the Max app ‘Continue Watching’ feature is working, while for others (like ‘The Big Bang Theory’) is not.

Update 4 (June 12, 2023)

05:21 pm (IST): Unfortunately, the issue continues to affect many users, and there is still not even an official word about it (1, 2, 3).

Update 5 (June 13, 2023)

04:19 pm (IST): The Max support team has finally started responding to some reports related to the issue.

However, they are only asking affected users for some info, which suggests that they were not yet aware of the problem. Hopefully this is the start of an investigation for the development of a fix.

Hey there, thanks for reaching out about this. We’re more than happy to help. Can you please send us a DM with your device model and Max email address? This way we can dig further into this for you. Thanks
