PlayStation 4 (PS4) is a popular gaming console that provides hours of entertainment to gamers around the world. However, like any device, it can sometimes encounter errors or glitches that can be frustrating for users.

One such issue that some PS4 owners have reported (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) is the error code NP-34958-9. Moreover, some users say that they see a lock icon or PS4 can’t connect.

Fortunately, we have come across some workarounds that might help you fix this error code. You can check them out below.

Workaround 1:

  • Go to the PS4’s settings menu. Select “Network” and then choose ‘Set Up Internet Connection.’
  • Choose either Wi-Fi or LAN (Ethernet), depending on your connection type.
  • When asked to select an IP address setting, choose ‘Custom.’ For the DHCP Host Name, select ‘Do Not Specify.’ For the DNS settings, choose ‘Manual.’
  • Set the Primary DNS to 1.1.1.1 and the Secondary DNS to 1.0.0.1 (if you are in a different region, use the appropriate DNS servers for your location).

Workaround 2:

Another workaround that has been suggested by users involves managing your devices and activating your account again. Here’s what you can try:

  • Go to PlayStation website and sign into your account. Navigate to the device management section. Deactivate all consoles attached to your account. Change your account password for added security.
  • Return to your PS4 and sign in again. Go to the account settings and activate your console as the primary device.

08:46 am (IST): Interestingly, the ‘NP-34958-9’ error code is not listed in the help section of the PlayStation website.

08:31 am (IST): Here’s another potential workaround that has helped some people:

-change the wifi line the ps4 is connected to (for example use the phone hotspot)
-log out from profile (account management->log out)
-log in the profile
-activate your console as primary

02:46 pm (IST): It seems that Fried Sony PSN servers are allegedly responsible for PS4 error code NP-34958-9. Also, PlayStation support Japan has announced a server maintenance for today, which means these issues might get fixed soon.

if anyone wants help with NP-34958-9, try connecting your ps4 to your cell phone’s 4g, restore the licenses and put your account as the main ps4. it worked for me!

Workaround: For people that still has this problem. Just wait and try to make your ps4 primary maybe a little every day. It gonna work after a while
