Google Assistant was created to assist users with chores and provide information through voice commands in natural language. It effectively completes your tasks when you just say ‘OK’ or ‘Hey, Google’.

It also aids in the maintenance of notes as well as lists with the help of Cross-Device syncing or simple organization and management.

However, Google recently announced that as of June 20, notes and lists will no longer work with non-Google list apps.

As a result, users of third-party apps like Bring or AnyList will no longer be able to use the feature of notes or lists in Google Assistant.

OurGroceries is also one of the affected third-party apps. This platform was used by a lot of people for conveniently listing their grocery items.

They are removing third party functionality and not adding anything of their own? So the only one who knows how to use Google Home properly is my 9 year old nephew: “Hey Google, tell me a joke”

Has anyone gotten to the bottom of why Google is destroying the functionality of third party apps like this? Are they intentionally trying to destroy the Nest ecosystem? Or do they just not care?

Ever since the news broke out to Google Assistant users, they have been trying to make sense of it. One of their main issues is that Google hasn’t made any changes (like introducing their own platforms) since eliminating these apps.

Here are some Google Assistant notes and lists alternatives

Users of these apps are therefore, searching for substitutes for the functions that AnyList or Bring once served. It appears that only Google apps will be supported now.

I only really used Our Groceries because of the voice commands. Now that it’s going away, is there a better grocery list alternative? I want to be able to share a list between two accounts and voice commands are a plus obviously lol.

Absolutely gutted, I use Anylist with Google Home so much. The integrated list functionality that comes with Google Home isn’t a patch on Anylist. Will also be looking for an alternative 🙁

This leaves users with Google Keep (notes) and Google Shopping List (lists) as the only apps that support Assistant integration.

It is a note-taking application with a straightforward and user-friendly design. Users can easily create and arrange notes, lists, reminders, and other forms of material.

You can even write text-based notes in Google Keep, add pictures and drawings, set reminders, and make checklists.

Google Shopping List

Alternatively, users can make and maintain lists using the Google Shopping List functionality found in the Google Assistant and Google Keep apps.

It gives them an easy way to arrange and access their shopping list from different devices while also assisting them in keeping track of the products they need to purchase.

If you’re looking forward to creating a list, you can refer to the screenshot added below:

In order to know more about the Google’s built-in shopping list and how to use it, you can head to this link.

But if you skim through Google Keep and Google Shopping List options, chances are that they might appear less fulfilling because of the availability of some features, so you can also consider switching to Siri or Alexa.

No doubt, it is a drastic move but one can also not forget that Google seemingly appears to be doing this on purpose to encourage the adoption of Keep and its integrated Shopping List feature.
