[Updated] Netflix 'password sharing crackdown' or 'one household account' move pushes many to cancel subscription, time to switch to alternatives?

Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on May 24, 2023) follows:

Lately, Netflix made quite a number of headlines for its password sharing crackdown policy. It appears that the US has already served as the initial starting point.

So, starting May 23, 2023, Netflix started sending an email to subscribers who share their account outside of their household.

In lieu of that, members can now start a new membership for someone outside their home by transferring their profile over to them. Alternatively, they can pay an additional price of $7.99 per person every month.

However, this move hasn’t gone down well with a large section of Netflix users. This policy has also left some in utter state of confusion.

Netflix ‘password sharing crackdown’ forces many to cancel subscription

According to reports, users are not happy with Netflix imposing a ban on password sharing or the introduction of ‘One household account’.

This decision has left them with nothing but to cancel their subscription to the streaming service (1,2,3,4,5,6).

I cancelled netflix post crackdown.
I just cancelled my netflix after about 7 years I believe. I had the highest tier too.

lol my mom, my brother, and I share a netflix account and if they try and charge us an extra $7.99/month a person, I’m gonna cancel that shit so fucking fast

Some don’t understand why Netflix would charge $8 for each additional household when they already pay $20/month. It has only convinced them to not pay extra for a family member who doesn’t reside in the same house.

By and large, a number of users also feel that there’s no exciting content on the platform anymore that is worth paying extra amount.

It’s worth noting that constant increase in the price, sudden cancellation of the shows are also some of the contributors that prompted users to cancel their subscription. But the password sharing ban only added fuel to the fire.

Some alternatives

Therefore, not only are people actively canceling their years-old Netflix subscription, but some are also looking for various alternatives.
