New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on May 23, 2023) follows:

Snapchat is a popular social media app that lets you share photos, videos, and messages with your friends. What makes it unique is that the photos and videos you send disappear after a short period of time.

You can also add fun filters and effects to your photos and videos. It’s a fun and creative way to stay connected with your friends and share moments from your day.

Snapchat keeps experimenting and implementing new changes to the platform to make it more user friendly. However, not all new changes are appreciated by users.

That said, they recently made a change to the message notifications icon that has left some users unimpressed.

Instead of the familiar blue color for unread chat messages, a red dot or bubble is now being used to indicate new messages.

Snapchat ‘red dot message notification icon’ gets criticized

While this change may seem minor, it has sparked a debate among Snapchat users who are divided on whether they like the new notification style or not.

At the moment, it remains unclear whether the red dot notification is simply a test being conducted by Snapchat or if it will eventually roll out to all users.

As is often the case with social media platforms, changes are frequently tested on a small group of users before being implemented globally.

Unfortunately, Snapchat hasn’t yet acknowledged the reports of users criticizing this feature. Also, there’s no workaround to revert this change.

For now, Snapchat users will have to wait and see if the red dot message notification becomes permanent or if it was merely an experimental phase.

Rest assured, we will keep an eye on the latest development and inform you as and when we come across anything noteworthy.

Update 1 (May 24, 2023)

05:11 pm (IST): According to a user, the only current way to change the dot color is by changing the theme of the app (1, 2). Sadly, this is a ‘premium’ feature that requires paying for Snapchat+.
