As compared to the third-generation Chromecast, the fourth-generation Chromecast with Google TV is for sure quite an upgrade in terms of performance and video quality.

Thanks to the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision video format support, one can enjoy binge-watching their favorite movies or shows with crystal clear clarity.

However, some are unhappy.

Chromecast with Google TV audio not working or stopping after turning TV off and on

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple users of the Chromecast with Google TV are experiencing an issue where audio is not working or keeps stopping after turning the TV off and back on.

It has been alleged that one can hear the TV menu navigation sounds normally but cannot get any audio output from the Chromecast device.

Apparently, one needs to restart it from the settings in order to temporarily get rid of this glitch. And it is understandably quite frustrating and annoying for users to do so, time and again.

The issue popped up after a recent firmware update and remains unresolved until now.

Since about a week ago, whenever we turn the TV off and on again, the Chromecast does not have audio.

I’m having the audio continuously drop the whole streaming. It comes back after I reset the dongle.

Common troubleshooting steps like power cycling, tinkering with system settings, setting up new user profiles, and factory resetting the device were tried by many, but without any success.

Customers are now requesting the developers to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Official acknowledgment

Fortunately, the Google support team has officially acknowledged the issue and is currently investigating it. Although, no official ETA for the bug fix has been provided.

We are hopeful that Google will soon resolve the issue where Chromecast with Google TV audio does not work after turning the TV off and on again.

That said, we’ll continuously monitor this topic and update this article to reflect noteworthy information.

Update 1 (May 22, 2023)

05:40 pm (IST): A product expert has confirmed that the team is working on a fix for the audio issues on Chromecast with Google TV.
