Roku 4 owners furious due to forced upgrade or risk losing Disney+ app & possibly other channels
In March, Roku announced that it will no longer be providing OS and feature updates for the Roku 4 units.
In addition to this, it was also mentioned that support for some streaming channels or apps can be revoked when the channel partners make updates.
And as per the latest reports, it appears that Disney+ has decided to join the bandwagon.
Disney+ not working on Roku 4
Multiple Roku 4 owners (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) have gotten furious as they are being forced to upgrade their device to the latest model so that they can continue watching content from the Disney+ app.
On opening the app, users receive a warning message stating ‘Disney+ will no longer be available on this Roku model after May 30, 2023’.
However, it appears that Disney’s decision to call it quits so soon as well has left some customers disappointed.

And this is due to the fact that they now have to discard their old units if they want to binge watch their favorite movies or shows after May 30.
This is understandably disappointing for those who have multiple Roku 4 devices installed at their premises as they now have to bear the replacement cost.
Some even believe this to be a ploy by the companies in order to force customers to purchase new and expensive devices over the years.
In the last week when opening Disney+ on my Roku 4 I get a warning text box that Disney+ will stop working on this Roku device after 5/30/23 and to continue to access it I need to upgrade to a newer device.

While on the other hand, some are supportive of the company’s decision and understand that this was necessary as they have to bear additional costs for the maintenance of older devices.
