Instagram is one of the leading social media platforms used by content creators and other individuals to capture and share moments.

However, recently, some have been experiencing difficulties when viewing content they have shared with others.

Instagram users unable to view photos or videos in DMs

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple Instagram users are facing an issue where they are unable to view photos or videos that they have sent to other users through direct messages (DM).

It has been alleged that the content appears as if one has already viewed it, despite the fact that it was only recently transmitted. And one can only like the photo after tapping on it.

Along with this, those on the receiving end also cannot view the disappearing photos or videos they received from others.

But luckily, users can see the directly sent multimedia content without any occasional hiccups. The issue popped up recently and affects users across multiple platforms.

Everytime I’m sent a photo or video in Instagram messages I can’t open the snap. It comes up greyed out as if I’ve already opened it, but I have not.

IG won’t allow me to open multiple photos sent in DM anymore.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, we did come across a workaround that may help solve your problem. It is recommended that you tap or click on the reply option in order to view the pictures or videos received in DMs.

That said, we are hopeful that Instagram will soon fix this glitch. We will continuously monitor this issue and update this article to reflect noteworthy information.
