Microsoft recently released the v8.95 update for Skype for Windows which brings bug fixes to some known issues, stability improvements, and new features as well.

For instance, the patch fixed the bugs where receiving a pdf file with a long name removed the share button, and clicking on the ‘Translate’ button crashed the app on Mac.

The update also adds the new Bing chatbot to Skype, which helps make the conversations more interesting with quizzes and recommendations.

However, it appears that the update has introduced some bugs as well.

Skype video calls issues on Windows

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple Skype users are experiencing an issue where they are unable to properly communicate with others over video calls.

It has been alleged that one cannot see each other’s video feed on making a video call. Although, one can hear each other’s voices like they normally would.

Apparently, the issue pops up as soon as one tries to video call an abroad Skype user and affects those using Windows 11 and Windows 10 machines.

And to rub salt in the wounds, the issue has been persistent for about a month and remains unresolved until now.

This is understandably a piece of bad news for those who need to communicate with Skype users from Philippines for work-related purposes.

My team has a mix of skype desktop 8.95.0.408 and skype from the store version 8.95.0.409 and none of us can see the video of others or share our screens.

Common troubleshooting steps like clearing the app cache, and uninstalling and reinstalling the app and Windows were tried by many, but to no avail.

Luckily, a moderator on the Microsoft Community forums has responded on the matter and says that video calling within the Philippines should work normally.

However, any international communication will result in video features being disabled.
