New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 6, 2022) follows:

The Galaxy S22 series is Samsung’s top-of-the-line range of smartphones that offer the best hardware and software experience.

Samsung’s One UI has received significant improvements over the years and has reached a point where even I, someone who loves the stock Android feel, wouldn’t mind recommending it to friends and family.

However, Samsung’s version of the OS isn’t perfect by any means and may come across the occasional bugs and issues.

App icons not showing on the Galaxy S22 series

Many users of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series devices are annoyed as app icons have stopped showing up in their notification panel after the latest update.

For a majority of the user base, the issue started after the stable One UI 5 (Android 13) update. However, we did come across a report that indicates that the issue was present in the beta version as well.

This is incredibly frustrating for many as they can no longer glance at their notifications and understand which app it’s from. It makes the entire ‘reading your notifications’ process a confusing nightmare.

It appears that the issue has something to do with the color themes in One UI. The main problem here is that the icons aren’t properly changing colors according to the device’s theme.

Unfortunately, Samsung is yet to officially acknowledge the issue. This also means that users might have to wait indefinitely for a permanent solution.

Temporary workaround

We did come across a potential workaround that can help affected users fix the issue temporarily. Sadly, it involves disabling your beloved One UI theme and color pallete and switching to the boring default look.

We hope that Samsung finds the root cause behind the issue where app icons are not showing up on Galaxy S22 series devices and fixes it at the earliest.

We’ll keep an eye on the problem and update this story to reflect noteworthy developments.

Update 2 (Sep. 26, 2023)

05:38 pm (IST): If this issue has reappeared or troubling you again, you can try the workaround mentioned below as suggested by one of our readers:

In my case, the “fix” was to disable dark mode, and then the icons appear as white (not colored) icons within black circles. Obviously, the bug is that the icons stay white when in dark mode, and a white icon in a white circle = a white circle!
