New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 20, 2023) follows:

Bluesky is a decentralized Twitter alternative launched in late February. The app was initially released on iOS and now it has been made available on Android as well.

However, currently, there are some limitations to Bluesky and you might not be able to find people you follow on other social media platforms due to its limited access. Moreover, the app is also missing out on the direct messages feature.

Even though Bluesky is available to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, you might not be easily able to create your account on the platform.

In order to create a Bluesky account, a user will need to join a waiting list and there’s no clue how long it is. Alternatively, you can get an invite code from early adopters of the app.

Both options do not guarantee faster access to the app. Also, users don’t know where to get the invite codes and have taken to Twitter to ask for the invite codes.

Here are some reports for reference:

Currently, the only way to get it is to look up on social media if any generous person is willing to share theirs with you.

Alternatively, you can also keep an eye on the r/blueskyinvites subreddit which has been created specifically for Bluesky fans looking for invite codes. You might be the lucky one, so keep an eye on it here.

Furthermore, some people are taking advantage of the demand for invite codes and posing as sellers (1, 2, 3). However, we recommend our readers to be aware of such people as it could simply be a scam.

Rest assured, we will update this article as and when we come across anything noteworthy regarding this app.

Update 1 (April 24, 2023)

06:06 pm (IST): A Bluesky member has advised prospective users against signing up through the Stems social server. As they would actually be registered on a different backend server as opposed to the AT protocol or Bluesky itself.

In other words, AT protocol is basically the decentralized social network platform developed by the Bluesky team.

Update 2 (April 26, 2023)

06:03 pm (IST): Here are some more details on how invitation system currently works.

– Every user gives 1 invite code for every 2 weeks they are on the app. The team could arbitrarily offer more invites for any reason to a particular user.

– If you invite users who contribute a lot you also get more codes

Update 3 (April 28, 2023)

05:30 pm (IST): According to Bluesky developer Paul Frazee, 35,000 out of the 1.2 million people on the waitlist are using the app.

Update 4 (May 01, 2023)

01:09 pm (IST): Sharing one of the team members’ posts, a Redditor quotes that there are more than a million people on the waitlist for Bluesky. Each week, the team is gradually inviting 1,000 people.
