When it comes to web browsers, both Microsoft Edge and Brave are among the most popular apps used across the globe.

Despite the fact that both are based on the Chromium project, they nevertheless include additional in-built features which help enhance one’s browsing and keep them secure.

However, some are unhappy as they are experiencing issues while surfing the web.

Microsoft Edge and Brave browsers not loading some pages or crashing

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), multiple users are experiencing difficulties in surfing the web as some pages are not loading or keep crashing on both Microsoft Edge and Brave web browsers.

Apparently, users are getting ‘This page is having a problem’ or ‘SIGILL‘ error while trying to load some websites. The issue affects only Linux users and has been persistent for the past few weeks.

And to add to their troubles, uninstalling and reinstalling both the web browsers or installing a new Linux copy cannot solve their problem.

Since I updated my Fedora 37 to 38 it started showing kernel errors on every boot. Also, Microsoft Edge and Brave started to show the SIGILL error on several pages. I’ve already tried to reinstall Fedora 38 from scratch and still continue with the same errors.

Those affected have even tried clearing the cache, cookies, and site data and re-launching the browser time and again, but without success. Now, they are asking the developers to fix this bug as soon as possible.

A Reddit user claims that the freetype library is breaking the rendering of some websites which results in SIGILL errors.

Potential workarounds

Luckily, we did come across some potential workarounds that may help you get rid of this annoying problem. It is recommended that you install the latest beta build of Microsoft Edge.

Alternatively, you can roll back to an older version for both Brave and Microsoft Edge.
