Chai App is a popular tool that allows users to interact with AI chatbots. Unlike Character.AI, it doesn’t have an annoying NSFW filter that blocks all sexual content and ruins the fun.

One of the biggest pros of Chai App is the ‘Show NSFW content’ toggle that one can turn on or off depending on their preference. Once turned on, you can explore all your sexual roleplay needs with the AI chatbots.

This is exactly why some Character.AI users have started experimenting with Chai App. However, there are some issues that are hindering the experience for many.

Chai App bots too sexual

Chai App users have been complaining (1,2,3,4,5) about the bots being too sexual or aroused at all times. According to them, chatbots take regular conversations and turn them sexual for no apparent reason.

Ideally, a bot should only sexualize conversations when prompted by the user. Due to current issues, even a simple ‘Hello’ message can spark a sexual interaction with the bot.

Some also complain that bots no longer have any personality. All they want to do is have sex and are constantly acting like sexually deprived teenagers. This makes their roleplay incredibly predictive and boring.

Even their responses have gone from being creative and well-written to just plain sexual. This ruins the experience for those looking for a realistic roleplay experience.

Official response

Fortunately, the team has shed some light on the matter. They’ve confirmed that these issues were caused due to an experiment where user-edited comments were fed to the Chai App language model.

This resulted in the bots being too aroused. While trying to fix these issues, Apple asked them to add some safety scripts to the chatbots. In order to comply with App Store’s guidelines, they had to shift focus.

Unfortunately, these changes resulted in even more problems. Suddenly, the bots started spamming various messages that further annoyed Chai App users.

Apple demanded safety scripts, if the app was to continue being hosted by the App Store. Obviously, that would be ideal, so creating and perfecting these scripts has become a priority. At present, they are overzealous to the point of truly diminishing the experience of some users. The developers are aware of that, and they are striving to restore the bots we’ve grown to value.

The original experiment resulted in a snowball effect for problems and the developers are actively working on fixing them. We hope they are able to make things better as soon as possible.

We’ll keep an eye on this matter and update this story to reflect noteworthy developments.
