Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

COD: Modern Warfare 2 is no stranger to server issues. We’ve previously highlighted various problems related to high ping and teleporting or rubberbanding introduced with the Season 2 update.

However, in classic Call of Duty fashion, the recent Season 3 update not only doesn’t fix them but makes them even worse for some players.

Server connection issues

According to reports (1,2,3,4), COD: Modern Warfare 2 is facing multiple issues when trying to connect to matches/lobbies. This hinders the enjoyment of players as they are unable to get into matches in most cases.

Those who manage to find lobbies end up getting kicked out mid-game for no apparent reason. When kicked, players generally receive some error messages that further rub salt in their wounds.

These generally include the ‘Unable to connect’, ‘Waiting to connect’, or ‘Disconnected from server’ errors. It’s worth noting that the issue affects even those with a stable and high-speed internet connection.

When I boot up the game it says “waiting to connet” or something then just get server disconnceted ?

I am getting this error *unable to connect to data center. Please check your internet connection and try again* is stopping playing this game the only fix?

In some cases, the game stays stuck on ‘Waiting to connect’ but suddenly disconnects before entering the match.

High ping and lag spikes

Players are also complaining (1,2,3,4) about comparatively higher ping after the recent update. They are constantly being put in high ping lobbies filled with major lag-related issues.

It seems that these ping issues affect Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone 2.0 matches as well. Things have gotten so bad that they are making the game unplayable for some.

Players also report abrupt lag spikes that make their ping jump from low to high. For one gamer, the ping went from 14 (very low) to around 300 (very high) in the middle of the match and stayed that way till the end.

the ones I get is where your latency goes from 14 to 300 in the middle of the match and stays that way until the end of the match.

Such latency problems are incredibly frustrating in a competitive shooter like Modern Warfare 2 where the response time significantly affects players’ gameplay.

Official acknowledgment

Fortunately, the COD: Modern Warfare 2 developers are aware of the server issues and are currently investigating them. But they did not share an ETA for the fix.

We hope they are able to find the root cause behind these problems and fix it as soon as possible. We’ll keep an eye on this matter and update this story to reflect noteworthy developments.
