Some Microsoft Edge users have reported a glitch that is preventing them from accessing certain pages and files on the web browser (1,2,3).

The affected users say that whenever they open Edge, the startup page is briefly displayed and then a ‘Shell Page’ from the URL pops up.

After this, the ‘Shell Page’ goes into an infinite loading loop, displaying a ‘Just a moment’ message, leaving them stuck on a blank screen with a Bing logo.

Users also report seeing this bug while switching tabs in the browser, even after having been using it for a some time.

Every time my computer turns off, a tab goes to sleep, or I open window, it replaces that tab, sometimes ruining hours of work. I’ve tried Restarting to browser, restarting my computer, and messing around in settings, I even searched it up, but I cant figure out how to stop it. This new page keeps showing up on top of the tab that I had open last time I shutdown my PC… It showed up the moment I opened up Microsoft edge… How do I get it to stop showing up?

The Microsoft team is already aware of the issue and for Family Safety users, the fix is included in build 112.0.1722.54 released on April 20, 2023. For the rest, there is no ETA for a fix yet.

Potential workaround

There is a potential way to fix this issue. All you need to do is follow these steps to repair ‘Microsoft Edge’:

1. Installed Apps
2. Then find ‘Microsoft Edge’
3. Clicking on the three dots and choose ‘Modify’
4. Select ‘Repair’ Microsoft Edge.

We hope that this issue is addressed soon as it interrupts workflow and is nothing but a hindrance to them.
