[Updated] First Direct app & website down or not working? You're not alone

First Direct is a financial institution that acts as a division of HSBC Bank offering its services throughout the UK.

Through the institution, you can obtain classic financial services such as accounts, credits, cards, loans and more, all backed by HSBC Bank.

However, currently many First Direct users are unable to access their accounts because both the app and the website are currently down or not working.

According to multiple reports, there is currently a massive outage in First Direct servers that is affecting millions of customers.

Users are unable to access their accounts or execute any transaction either from the app or from the website.


@firstdirect how long are your online services down for? switched accounts to you today but can’t use your digital services due to errors, only way I can confirm the switch succeeded is via my old bank’s app and an Open Banking connection… not hugely reassuring I’ll admit.

@firstdirecthelp @firstdirect both online and Mobile app access seems to be down at the moment. Can you confirm, an dindicate when access will be restored?

Platforms such as Services Down also reflect the current outage on the servers of the banking institution.

There is still no official acknowledgment of the issue from the First Direct team. We will update this story as the situation develops.

Update 1 (September 26, 2022)

06:07 pm (IST): First Direct has acknowledged the issue with their app and website and confirmed that the team is working to resolve it. However, there’s no ETA for the fix.

Update 2 (September 27, 2022)

09:49 am (IST): First Direct support has confirmed that the recent issue with their app and website has now been resolved.

Update 3 (April 25, 2023)

12:45 pm (IST): Fresh reports (1, 2, 3) suggest that the First Direct app is currently down or not working for a section of users.

Luckily, the support team has acknowledged the issue and confirmed that they are working to fix it.
