Disney Speedstorm was recently released for Early Access and has received a mixed response from the community. Reviews suggest that the core of the game is strong and enjoyable, but the execution just isn’t right.
On top of that, there are some bugs and issues that are currently hurting players’ experience. It seems that some are unable to progress in the game due to a bug with the ‘Upgrade’ button.
Disney Speedstorm players unable to upgrade characters
Some Disney Speedstorm players on PlayStation consoles (PS4 and PS5) are reporting (1,2,3,4,5) that they are unable to upgrade or level up characters at the moment. This is preventing them from progressing further in the game.
Ideally, a player should be able to level up their favorite characters by clicking the ‘Upgrade’ button in the character menu. However, ‘Upgrade’ is replaced with a red ‘Error’ button for some gamers.
It’s worth noting that your character’s level is incredibly important in a competitive game like Disney Speedstorm. Being stuck at a lower character level directly affects your in-game rank.
Disney SpeedStorm Mickey level up error. Does anyone know how to fix this. can’t move forward in the first circuit until i level up mickey and it just says error.

I can’t continue in the starter circuit since it won’t let me upgrade to lvl 3 for the lvl 3 recommended race.

Some are also unable to compete in certain races because they require players to have a higher level. While the majority of the reports are from those unable to upgrade Mickey, other characters are affected as well.
In other cases, even the ‘Shop’ icon appears greyed out preventing players from buying items.
Official acknowledgment
Fortunately, Disney Speedstorm developers are already aware of the problem and are currently working to resolve it. But they did not share an ETA for the fix.
Until the issue is resolved, you can try opening the game in offline mode for a potential fix. You can do this by either unplugging the ethernet cable or unchecking the ‘Connect to internet’ option in PlayStation’s network settings.
There is a temp fix. Basically unplug your internet while the game is running, agree to enter “offline mode”. Once that restarts plug the internet back in and wait for it to say “internet detected, switch to online mode”. Do that, and it should work. You have to do this every time you start the game until they fix it.

It appears that common troubleshooting steps like restarting the game or console and reinstalling the game can temporarily fix the problem as well. However, the success rate is fairly low at the moment.
We hope the developers are able to find the root cause behind the problem and fix it at the earliest. We’ll keep an eye on this issue and update this story to reflect important developments.
