Google Nest is quite a popular line of smart home devices like cameras, thermostats, routers, smart displays, streaming devices, and much more.

Time and again, the company introduces updates to its smart gadgets bringing new and enhanced features.

For instance, Google recently shared that notifications from Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell will be soon available on the Google Home app after an update.

After this, it will become easy for one to keep watch of what’s happening outside their house. Along with this, users will also get alerts for things they care about.

However, it looks like the recent development doesn’t impact everyone equally.

In the latest announcement, Google also revealed that a public preview of the Google Home app will be available for Wear OS. This means that it will become easy for smartwatch owners to be aware of their surroundings.

But the company also added that this functionality will be limited to Wear OS watches released from 2021 onwards, which basically means Wear OS 3 devices.

And expectedly, users are dissatisfied after hearing this news. However, some smartwatch owners (1,2,3,4) say that this feature existed on the pre-2021 watches running Wear OS 2 as well.

They allege that Google removed it after some time and now they have re-introduced and limited it to smartwatches manufactured after 2021.

And some are understandably frustrated since this development forces them to purchase a watch that is compatible with the new feature.

I guess I’ll have to see if my doorbell works with his since it’s a Gen 1 that I bought in 2022. If it doesn’t work, I’m going to be pissed.

Whether Google will make Nest Cam and Nest Doorbell notifications available to older Wear OS devices remains unknown, but it looks unlikely.
