One of the many possibilities that Google Assistant offers in the Nest or Home speakers is radio stations playback through voice commands.

Previously, this feature had already experienced some issues like some users being unable to play TuneIn or BBC radio stations.

However, now it seems that the issue has escalated, and Google Assistant on Nest or Home speakers is unable to play radio stations from any source for multiple users.

Google Assistant on Nest or Home speakers unable to play radio stations

According to multiple reports, there are users for whom the Google Assistant ‘radio stations playback’ feature is simply not working. The issue has been going on for at least a couple of days.

Two 2nd Gen Nest Hubs, neither will play BBC radio stations anymore. The assistant just says ‘I can’t do that here but I can play it on another device’. This happened before about a month ago and suddenly corrected itself after a day. This time it has been going on for two days and nothing I do has helped

Same problem here. I have always used “Play {StationName} on SeriusXM. Recently, started telling me “I looked for {StationName} on SeriusXM but it isn’t available or can’t be played right now”. If I say “Play Channel XX on SeriusXM”, it immediately comes back with “Streaming {StationName} on SeriusXM.

In the past, when these types of problems occurred, users would try multiple variations of the commands to do the trick. But it seems that now none of the voice command combinations are working.

These instructions used to work until today. Now I am unable to play radio stations using Google Assistant on any of my devices. I have tried dozens of variations to play 3 different radio stations. None work.

Fortunately, the Google team is already aware of the issue and working on a fix, but there is no ETA yet.

Also, a Google employee confirmed that the issue is not limited to smart speakers. It is also impacting other platforms such as Smart Displays, smartphones, and Auto.

Users globally have been facing issues when attempting to trigger radio stations on Assistant. The issue is being experienced across all surfaces (incl. Speakers, displays, mobile, and auto)
