Instagram has dedicated app clients available for some of the widely used platforms like Android, iOS, and Windows.
These have many useful features that make it easy for one to connect, share and express themselves to their target audience.
However, for some, the official apps don’t necessarily have all of the features they need, owing to which they end up using third-party apps or mods.
And looking at the recent reports, it appears that this might be the right time for such users to switch to the official app.
Is Instagram disabling accounts for using third-party apps?
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), Instagram is permanently banning or disabling accounts of those users who are using third-party app clients.
Generally, such apps connect to one’s account and allow them to access additional information related to their followers or easily download one’s photos and videos.
Recently, the company has become aggressive in enforcing its policies strictly, and resultantly the number of bans has increased.
One of the users claims that their account got disabled as they were using an app for viewing the list of all those users who had unfollowed them.
Another user alleges their account has recently been banned as they were making use of an unauthorized app to anonymously view the stories of other Instagram users.

Those affected have even tried contacting and sending reports to Instagram’s support team, but they are allegedly still awaiting a response from the company.
Notably, those who are using META verified accounts are also getting banned if they are found guilty of using unofficial apps (1,2,3).
Weirdly, some users (1,2) were even displayed the message ‘A message you sent went against our community guidelines’ without having sent anything offensive in the chats.
That said, in some of the previous reports, users didn’t specify whether they were using third-party apps or not. Therefore, it’s unclear what the reason for the ban was.
However, it is worth mentioning that using a third-party app or modifying the original app violates the platform’s TOS (terms of service).

We are not sure whether all of the recent bans are the result of using third-party apps or not. But one thing we can be sure of is that Instagram dislikes those who use third-party apps or mods of their apps.
So the ones using such apps should be aware that their account can be disabled anytime soon.
