New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 2, 2023) follows:

Samsung Galaxy S23 series is the latest addition to Samsung’s flagship smartphone lineup that comes with a sleek and stylish design, cutting-edge technology, and the most advanced features.

From its stunning display to its powerful processor and long-lasting battery, the S23 family has everything to make it one of the top choices for a premium smartphone experience.

This explains why Samsung Galaxy S23 is a highly anticipated smartphone as I pen this, and its camera capabilities have been a topic of discussion among tech enthusiasts since the official unveiling.

Recently, popular tech YouTubers Marques Brownlee and Mrwhosetheboss released videos about their first impressions of the S23 and one of the features they both touched on was the camera shutter lag.

MKBHD mentioned that the phone has a slight shutter lag, while Mrwhosetheboss said that the shutter lag is much better than previous iterations.

These conflicting opinions have caused confusion among potential buyers. According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), some people are now concerned about the shutter lag.

According to MKBHD review the s23 has terrible shutter lag and a screen flicker issue. Thats samsung and android software for you. No where near iPhone quality and output.

Others seem relaxed as they feel that it is better than some versions of the Galaxy lineup.

It’s important to note that these are just initial impressions, and the full story will only be known once the devices start shipping to buyers.

Nevertheless, it’s understandable why some people are concerned about shutter lag. This is because the speed of the camera’s shutter can greatly affect the quality of photos taken with the phone.

The jury is still out on whether the Samsung Galaxy S23 series camera has shutter lag or not.

Only time will tell how well the S23 performs in terms of shutter lag, but in the meantime, potential buyers should take these initial impressions with a grain of salt.

Until then, keep tabs on this story as we will keep you posted about further developments, if any.

Update 1 (February 9, 2023)

03:44 pm (IST): A new Good Lock ‘Camera Assistant’ module update (1, 2, 3) brought support to the Galaxy S23 series and a couple of new options focused on speeding up the camera:

– Add Capture Speed Step:

Speed priority, picture quality precondition

– Quick tap shutter:

Take pictures as soon as your finger touches the Shutter button instead of when you lift it off. You can still swipe or press and hold the Shutter button to capture GIFs, burst shots, and videos, but a picture will be taken too.

Update 2 (February 13, 2023)

12:03 pm (IST): Now that the device has begun to reach consumers, some fresh reports indeed confirm that there is a considerable amount of shutter lag.

Furthermore, some pointed out that the Camera Assistant that prioritizes speed over quality does not help mitigate the lag.

Update 3 (February 20, 2023)

05:27 pm (IST): It seems that the current Galaxy S23 Ultra shutter lag can produce ‘motion blur’ if the subject moves slightly when taking the photo.

The following image compares photos taken by the Galaxy S23 Ultra (left) and the iPhone 14 Pro (right).

The subject is noticeably more detailed in the photo taken with the iPhone thanks to the almost instantaneous shutter speed.

However, users can improve shutter speed by using the Good Lock ‘Camera Assistant’ module (check ‘Update 1’).

Update 4 (February 21, 2023)

04:47 pm (IST): A user reported that the issue of shutter lag and motion blur can be mitigated by using a Camera Assistant module. However, the photos will come out less bright and detailed.

Update 5 (February 22, 2023)

02:47 pm (IST): The device appears to have improved reportedly in the February patch by decreasing shutter lag.

Update 6 (March 31, 2023)

03:55 pm (IST): The Galaxy S23 series received a major update that enhances camera quality with improvements to night mode, shutter speed, and other features. The update is initially released in South Korea.

Check full changelog here.

Update 7 (June 26, 2023)

02:26 pm (IST): Some users are reporting (1, 2) that the latest June 2023 update removed ‘Faster post processing’ or ‘Faster capture’ settings from camera.

As a result, users are unable to choose between prioritizing shutter or processing speed in high resolution images.
