Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

i.reddit.com and reddit.com/.compact allow users to view Reddit in a more condensed format, which can be helpful for those who prefer a minimalist layout or have limited screen space.

The posts and comments are displayed in a more streamlined manner, with fewer graphics and a simplified layout. This makes it easier for users to quickly scan through content and find what they’re looking for.

Reddit Compact view or i.reddit.com is a preferred option for users who value faster load times or they are on a slower internet connection or have limited data plans.

Unfortunately, Reddit’s recent forced redirection to the new website has caused discontent among users. They now have to deal with slower load times and pages that are heavier in graphics.

Several users have asked for the return of the Reddit Compact view or an easier-to-use alternative. Some even expressed dissatisfaction with the native app or website and are seeking a solution that better suits their needs.

www.reddit.com/.compact used to be the best way to browse reddit for me. It’s barebones, it does not support video and barely shows small images on posts. Great for resource saving. It stopped working on mobile last week

This seems to be part of Reddits plan to make the platform more accessible, offer a cleaner page design, and give users quicker access to related content.

Here are some alternatives

Well, with the changes confirmed, here are a few alternatives for Reddit Compact and i.reddit.com:

1. Use old.reddit.com/.compact

2. RedReader for Android users and Apollo for Reddit for iOS users

3. Use this script as part of a browser extension that allows additional plug-in scripts, like Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey. The list of mobile browsers that support Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey/Violentmonkey is here.

That said, we’ll keep track of the Reddit Compact and i.reddit.com not working issue and post an update if and when there are any further developments regarding the matter.
