Discord is a well-known social networking platform used by people all around the world. The company recently released an update for the Android and iOS app which now allows users to access Activities.

Along with this, Discord has also introduced the swipe-left-to-reply feature, which makes it easy for one to reply to conversations. However, it looks like this feature has not been received well.


Discord mobile app ‘swipe left to reply’ feature

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple users are facing difficulties in accessing the active members list for a server after the recent update for the mobile app.

Earlier, one could easily access this list with a simple swipe to the left. However, after the recent update, users are unable to do so as swiping left gives them the option to reply to a conversation.

Consequently, users are upset and have taken to web forums to criticize the newly introduced feature.


One of those affected says that it has become difficult for them to frequently monitor or check the members list on the servers they moderate after the latest update.

Another user claims that the new feature disrupts their workflow because they can no longer quickly examine the list of servers and server members. They also believe that this feature could have been approached differently.

So I am hating the fact that I can’t figure out how to be able to swipe to the left to check who is in a server…is there anyway I can change it back to the way it was before this new update for mobile?

@discord please please PLEASE take out that swipe to reply addition. We, all of us, use the left swipe to see whose online more than replying.

Some Discord users are now requesting the developers to revert the changes or provide an option to disable the new feature.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, we did come across a potential workaround that may help solve your problem. A user on Reddit says that you need to swipe a bit to the right and then go left to access the active members list.


We do hope that Discord will listen to user feedback and consider providing the option to disable the new ‘swipe left to reply’ feature.

In the meantime, we’ll keep tabs on this topic and update this story to reflect the latest information.

Update 1 (Mar. 29, 2023)

03:24 pm (IST): It seems that Discord has removed the ‘Swipe to reply’ feature after massive criticism. However, users are now demanding the ‘Double tap to react’ feature (1,2,3,4,5).

Moreover, a tipster also claimed that the company is presently working on this functionality.
