YouTube TV is one of the well-known streaming platforms used by millions of people across the globe on a daily basis. It allows one to stream on-demand content, news, live TV, sports, and much more.

The platform has been streaming the MLB (Major League Baseball) matches live for the past 4 years, but unfortunately, it won’t be doing so this year.

For whatever reason, YouTube and MLB Network have failed to agree on the streaming rights contract renewal.

To rub salt in the wound, the company has recently hiked its monthly subscription price, and some are expectedly unhappy with this decision.

YouTube TV may lose subscribers due to the recent price hike

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8), a section of users is of the view that YouTube TV may see a rapid decline in subscriber count following the recent price hike.

Some are frustrated that despite the price hike, they still get poor picture quality on some YouTube TV channels. Even more annoying is that the price hike comes at a time when MLB Network is gone.

One of those affected says that YouTube TV had previously almost lost contracts with some of the popular networks, like Disney, NBC Universal as well. Due to this, they are less interested in continuing their membership.

Another user claims to have switched back to DTV because of poor picture quality of the content streamed on the platform.

I’ll probably be canceling after March Madness until football season. It’s not really that $8 more is tooooo much money or it’s a bad value but it just made me re-evaluate

I watch a lot sports but don’t care about multi view. I’m cancelling. Going back to Netflix and playing video games.

Interestingly, others (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) claim that they don’t plan on leaving the platform. They believe that the price increments made are justified and also claim that YouTube TV provides more content at cheaper prices.

A YouTube TV subscriber says that they will be continuing with their subscription as the platform has most of the channels they like.

They also say that it has a better UI than Hulu Live TV, a better picture quality than Sling TV, and is way cheaper than some of its competitors.

Another user says that they don’t have to wait for at least an hour every time they want to add or modify an add-on package. They also believe that the price has been fairly increased.

If you really watch little television, then I can see why you would leave. People make it sound like no other service is raising the prices. It is literally the price of a Mac Donald’s egg McMuffin meal. It doesn’t even move my meter a bit.

Also, do note that Nexstar and YouTube TV have reached a multi-year agreement for the launch of 59 Nexstar stations, including CW, MyNet, and some independent television stations, which partly explains this recent price hike.

Update 1 (March 28, 2023)

06:06 pm (IST): YouTube team is still working for the return of MLB Network. However, nothing is concrete at this point.

we understand how frustrating the news was & it wasn’t the outcome we wanted. we’ll continue conversations w/ the MLB Network in the hope of restoring their content on YouTube TV in the future (Source)
