New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on May 21, 2021) follows:

Bungie is not making it easy for the Destiny 2: New Light players as the game is always surrounded by bugs and issues.

Error code Beagle appeared recently that kept asking players on PlayStation 5 to reinstall the entire 75 GB pack after the hotfix update that aired recently.

As weird as it may sound, the company names these errors on actual worms. Players have so far witnessed Error code weasel, anteater, barracuda.

Well, here comes another one that has been affecting Destiny 2 players for quite some time now. It is the Error code Centipede that is doing the rounds now.

As per the reports, it appears when trying to log into a character, leading the game to crash soon after.

The error has been troubling players on all major platforms including the PlayStation 5. For some, it appears immediately after logging in, and for others, takes a couple of mins before crashing.

Perhaps, the company is already aware of the occurrence of this bug and there’s nothing they want to do to fix this.

The official website of Bungie mentions the Error code Centipede but only puts the blame on the internet with no other solution whatsoever.

Fixing Error code Centipede on Destiny 2

Being a common network error, this can be screened out by ensuring a stable network. Follow the preliminary steps

– If you are using WiFi, we recommend switching to a wired connection
– If your NAT is Strict or Type 3, we recommend getting your NAT into an Open or Type 1 state.

But it also notes that not every NAT issue can be resolved. For that, one will have to seek help from the internet service provider.

The game developers believe this to be something that goes on its own and depends on which area the game is being played in. The UK reported 25% of these error cases.

Other than this, the page says they are continuously monitoring the Centipede issue that has spoiled Destiny 2 for the folks and will address the issue soon.

That said, we will keep tracking this issue and update you guys as soon as we have a workaround or a permanent solution.

Update 1 (January 31, 2022)

04:00 pm (IST): Some Destiny 2 players are again reporting (1, 2, 4) the Centipede error code. Players say that they are getting ‘Contacting Destiny 2 server’, followed by the Centipede error.

Fortunately, Bungie has mitigated this issue, but it is not fully resolved and players may still get this error code until it is permanently fixed.

Update 2 (August 12, 2022)

12:48 pm (IST): Many Destiny 2 players are now reporting (1, 2, 3, 4) that the game servers are currently down or not working for them.

06:05 pm (IST): The server issue with Destiny 2 appears to have been resolved as we haven’t come across any fresh reports on Twitter.

Update 3 (January 25, 2023)

08:33 am (IST): Destiny 2 is currently down for everyone due to maintenance on their servers that has gone on for several hours.

The maintenance seeks to resolve issues that affected player progress in weapon crafting Quests and Triumphs, Seals/Titles, Catalysts, and more.

There is still no ETA for everything to work normally again.

09:50 am (IST): Bungie team estimates that Destiny 2 servers will be back online starting today (January 25) at 3-4 AM PST. However, they also advise that the timeline could change.

Update 4 (February 9, 2023)

01:55 pm (IST): Bungie support has informed players that the backend server maintenance for Destiny 2 has begun and it will last all day. Furthermore, players might face issues while playing the game.

Update 5 (February 10, 2023)

05:39 pm (IST): The recent maintenance with Destiny 2 has now been completed and the servers are back to normal.

Update 6 (March 9, 2023)

09:44 am (IST): Bungie devs had announced a maintenance to resolve error codes, login issues and more.

However, the initially announced time has been extended suddenly. So, Destiny 2 will continue to be down for at least 4 additional hours.

Background maintenance has been extended.

❖ Extended by: 4 hours
❖ NEW End: 12:00 AM PST

The issue has angered multiple players (1, 2) who thought that the game would be working at a certain time:

That’s great! take everyone offline because SOME players can’t get on. I’ve had that issue in the past and never had Bungie take the game offline to try and fix. #pissed

01:30 pm (IST): The recent server maintenance has ended, and the game is available again.

Update 7 (March 24, 2023)

08:23 am (IST): Bungie team has acknowledged an issue where Destiny 2 players are unable to login due to error codes.

Update 8 (March 26 , 2023)

11:00 am (IST): The lack of new reports related to the issue in several hours suggest that it has now been resolved.
