Update 2 (December 21, 2023)

06:00 pm (IST): Recent reports suggest that some Pixel 7 users are facing difficulties charging their devices wirelessly even after upgrading to the latest beta build. Unfortunately, the situation remains the same even after switching to different wireless chargers.

Update 1 (March 14, 2023)

05:38 pm (IST): Google has just released a software update for March 2023 for eligible Pixel devices and it also includes general enhancements to the performance of wireless charging under specific circumstances.

So affected users can try updating their devices to see if it fixes the unstable wireless charging issue.

Original story follows:

The Google Pixel 7 series offers a balanced set of features, flagship cameras and software updates direct from Google for a fairly competitive price.

Sadly, nothing is perfect and the same goes for these devices, whose users have been reporting issues to be resolved. For example, there are cases of network issues, screen flickering, etc.

Now, it seems that Google Pixel 7 wireless charging feature is not working or stops mid-way for some users.

Google Pixel 7 wireless charging not working or stops mid-way

Both the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro support wireless charging via a Qi charger. This feature is appreciated by many, especially when using some wireless charging stands that add additional options (like a dock).

But, it seems that some Pixel 7 users have been struggling with an issue where the feature is not working properly as the wireless charging never starts or stops halfway.

Wireless charging is doesn’t work at times

I got the 7 Pro and lately, I’ve noticed that it stops wireless charging either mid-way or doesn’t start charging at all. I’ve not changed any cable or even the Qi wireless charger for that matter.

Pixel 7 Pro Wireless Charging Stopped Working

Bought a brand new pixel 7 pro in early February. Wireless charging worked fine on 4 various chargers around the house for about 3-4 weeks. No issues. Wireless charging stops working about a week ago.

The issue seems to start suddenly and with no apparent explanation. Some users suggest that the ‘Adaptive Charging’ feature could be the cause of wireless charging stopping at a certain point.

However, this is not yet confirmed, and there are even people for whom the problem occurs for other reasons. For instance, another user points out that wireless charging stops when the Pixel 7 is inside a case:

I’ve had this issue when only using my OtterBox. It cuts in and out of charge the whole time.

Could it be a hardware related problem on some units?

We could even be talking about a hardware-related problems on some units. There are users who required a complete change of motherboard, or even a new device via warranty, which is not very encouraging.

sent it back, they tried to repair it but sent a new one (different batch) back. will see how this goes, but I’ll disable pixel stands and adaptive charging in case

That said, currently this is a problem that seems to be affecting some units, and not something widespread.

There is still no official acknowledgment of the issue from the Google team. We will update this story as events unfold.
