[Updated] Destiny 2 'give commendations' reportedly riddled with issues: Characters not loading, limited timer & more

Destiny 2: Lightfall has been a fantastic expansion that brought a lot of new content and features to the game. It marked the end of the current story arc and introduces a new destination, new weapons, and armor sets.

Bungie also introduced ‘Give Commendations’ that allows players to reward other players for their assistance in completing activities or for being excellent teammates. Unfortunately, it appears to have certain shortcomings.

According to reports, players do not give credit to teammates who performed well during the match, even those who did most of the work and were exceptional (1,2,3).

This is a major issue because there are difficulties in the game that require ‘commendations’. For example, a ‘750 recommendations score’ is necessary to reach rank 7.

As a result, if these points are not awarded to players, they will never be able to complete this challenge. What makes it even more frustrating is that it is decided by the votes of their teammates rather than their own score.

I hate this system I commend everyone because the grind sucks but I haven’t gotten commended by anyone in the last 3 games of comp I’ve done and I wasn’t throwing. Why are people such dicks about it takes a few seconds and helps them on their stupid guardian ranks triumphs

If that wasn’t enough, it seems there are several issues with the ‘Commendations’ process itself.

Several gamers claim that the commendation screen never loads and that all of their teammates’ characters are invisible (1,2,3,4).

In other circumstances, the ‘commendation timer’ runs out quickly, or players receive an error message stating that they have already given this commendation (1,2,3,4,5).

Therefore, as a consequence, even those players who wish to give commendations find it difficult to do so. This defeats the entire objective of introducing something new into the game.

@BungieHelp I’d love to give more commendations… IF THE SCREEN EVER LOADED WITH PEOPLE! At least let us view it in previous results so I can actually give the commendations >_< Source

Furthermore, a player’s number of commendations every match is restricted, so not everyone on the squad receives one, even if they deserve it.

@BungieHelp can i ask why when your in a 6 man activity you can only give 3 commendations and not all 5 who are with you? Also it only lets me give one or the other when someone else has used it when i might of wanted to give them the same!

Fortunately, Bungie is currently investigating an issue where some player characters and weapons appear invisible after interactions with the post-activity Commendations screen:

As a possible workaround restart the game app to resolve this issue.

06:00 pm (IST): Unfortunately, a bug has emerged in the game where the commendations screen fails to load after a match concludes (1,2,3,4,5).

This means that players are unable to access the interface to give commendations to their teammates, causing frustration and disappointment among the player base.

As a result, players miss out on the opportunity to reward their fellow Guardians and contribute to their progression within the game.

12:14 pm (IST): Destiny 2 ‘give recommendations’ system remains problematic as some players are still unable to use it after matches (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

The Bungie team said that they are already working on a permanent fix, although there is no ETA yet. In the meantime, they offered a potential workaround:

We are continuing to investigate a fix for some players being unable to give out commendations.

While we work on a permanent solution, players in this state are advised to load into a raid and then return to orbit as a workaround.
