Players have been demanding changes to the ranked matchmaking system for a while, and it looks like the developers have finally listened to their demands.

Halo Infinite Ranked matchmaking now CSR based

According to recent reports (1,2,3,4), the Halo Infinite ranked matchmaking has been switched over from MMR (Matchmaking Rank) to CSR (Competitive Skill Rank).

One of the most appealing aspects of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is its Ranked playlist. It puts players into ranks depending on their skill and performance.

A gamer’s rank is set when they successfully complete the first ten ranked competitive matches and gets updated when they further play the game.

Also, the rank gets reset at the beginning of each season, so one needs to climb as high as possible. CSR is the rank that is visible to the players, whereas MMR is the hidden rank used by the game to determine a player’s skill.

After the recent change, the skill of one’s teammates and opponents will be more variable. Also, one will now be fairly matched against their opponents.

Since defeats are not harshly penalized in CSR, it will be simpler for a gamer to rank up by grinding.

Although MMR will still be used as a metric to balance teams after one has been matched based on CSR.

It must be noted that for new or casual players who don’t have a rank, their matchmaking will still be based on the old MMR methodology.

According to the developers, this change has been made only after listening to the players’ suggestions. If players encounter any issues with unbalanced teams in Ranked playlists, then they can submit their feedback here.

Some gamers are also requesting that developers completely remove the MMR-based matchmaking from social playlists. This could be due to the imbalances in the old matchmaking system.
