Samsung never fails to surprise users, and with the introduction of its Galaxy S23 lineup, it has set the bar high for other Android smartphones in the market.

However, like any other smartphone, it is also not free from various bugs and issues.

Samsung Galaxy S23 app notifications sound the same

Some Samsung Galaxy S23 owners (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) are facing an issue where a custom notification tone applied on one’s phone gets applied system wide. Due to this bug, the app alerts for different apps sound the same.

Several users get confused as they are unable to differentiate one app alert from the other.

A user complains that after they changed their phone’s notification sound to a custom one, the sound for each and every app on their device has changed to that.


They further add that even social media apps like Snapchat, Messenger, and Reddit as well as other installed apps have the same alert tone now, which adds to their confusion.

Apparently, those affected are unable to restore the default alert tones on their devices and are now thinking of returning it.


So im having a problem where ever single notification sound is the same. How do i get the notifications to become the default app notification sound?

Snapchat, messenger, and Instagram usually all have a unique notification sound when I get a message, but for some reason, it all sounds like my phones default notification sound. Is anyone else having this issue?

Potential workaround

Fortunately, we did come across some potential workarounds that may help solve your problem. It is recommended that you uninstall and reinstall the affected apps.


Alternatively, you can set up custom or default notifications for apps individually by following the steps mentioned below.

1. Go to your smartphone’s settings.
2. From there head over to notifications > app notifications.
3. Select the app whose alert tone you want to change.
4. After that, select notification categories.
5. Choose the type of notification.
6. Tap on sound; after this, you’ll be able to select a custom sound for the chosen app or notification.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on the problem where all app notifications sound the same on Samsung Galaxy S23 phones.
