The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the top-of-the-line flagship smartphone in the S23 series. It features a powerful camera setup, allowing one to shoot high-quality photos and videos.

As compared to its predecessor, the S22 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra offers better performance, enhanced battery life, and a smooth gaming experience.

Recently, some S23 Ultra buyers started receiving their mobile devices, and they are discovering a minor defect in the newly delivered smartphone.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra users are getting a kind of a bubble in one of the lower corners on the screen.

For some, this bubble appears in a single corner, either left or right, and for others, it appears on both sides.

Even though it is hard to notice at first glance, some users are concerned after seeing such a defect in the newly shipped device.

It is also worth mentioning that this bubble or dent on the screen does not affect the mobile device’s display quality. Customers are now wondering whether it’s normal or a defect that needs fixing under warranty.

Then why doesn’t it bent the same way on the other corner? Could either be a defect or a new part that was introduced with the s23 ultra as it uses a next gen display

It was like that on my S22u, something wavey where the screen meets the boarder, but the screen when on was perfectly straight

I’ve seen people report that there Note 20 have it, another said there S21 had it, another said there S22 had it, so it doesn’t seem to be a isolated problem.

A Twitter user also says that this may not be a proper defect, and the dent or bubble might just be appearing because of the way the light bends under the glass.

So, apart from the odd appearance, it looks like this should not affect one’s day-to-day usage of their smartphone.

12:43 pm (IST): A Samsung UK support agent stated that what some users are seeing in the corners of their devices is not a defect. However, the agent did not offer a further explanation publicly.

Update 3 (Feb. 22, 2023)

12:30 pm (IST): According to Samsung UK support, the bubble on the screen is a result of several layers of glass lamination that provide dust and water resistance.

The Galaxy S23 display has several laminated layers of window glass that is attached directly to the display panel. To ensure the device is a waterproof/dustproof structures the layers are pressed to prevent foreign substances or liquids from entering.

Update 4 (Feb. 23, 2023)

12:07 pm (IST): On its website (check ‘Update 1’), Samsung claimed that the minor defect on the screen is an effect caused by light refraction at some angles.

However, there are some images from users that actually show their Galaxy S23 units have a small bubble (not just a visual effect):

That said, it’s still something that shouldn’t affect the overall user experience as it’s not visible at all times and doesn’t affect image quality.
