New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 3, 2023) follows:

Developed by Google, Google One is a subscription service offering services such as cloud storage, Gmail, Google Meet, and much more. The company has recently expanded its feature set and added VPN support.

Google claims to have used its expertise in privacy, cryptography, and networking infrastructure to build its VPN.

As compared to the other VPN service providers, Google’s VPN can be accessed across Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac devices. Also, one can extend their VPN plan to 5 more people.

However, some Google Pixel smartphone owners are not happy as they are unable to use the VPN.

Google One VPN not working or connecting for some Pixel 6 and 7 users

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), some Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users are unable to use the VPN by Google One on their devices.

It is alleged that the VPN displays a notification saying that they are no longer connected to the service. Also, when users try to disable the VPN from Google One, the application becomes unresponsive.

Others claim that even though the app does not freeze for them, once they re-enable the VPN, it either connects and disconnects immediately or fails to connect.

I’m having the same issue, luckily it does not disrupt my data connection. I can temporarily get around this by clearing Data on Google One app, and re-sign into Google One with my G1 account, and VPN works for about a few days. Then I will get the “disabled, please sign in with a G1 account” warning, and have to do it all over again

QPR2 beta 2 pixel 7 series only. VPN won’t connect it tells me to sign in. Was working fine on the stable public release of android 13. It tries to connect but won’t.

Generally, affected users are required to restart their mobile devices in order to reconnect or resume their VPN connectivity. This problem seems to be affecting those on the beta channel.

It is interesting to note that this issue had already been escalated in December, but there has been no bugfix yet.

A few days ago, a Diamond Product Expert asked affected Pixel owners to wait for the next beta release. But apparently, the issue still persists even in the latest beta 3 update.

Temporary workarounds

We did come across some workarounds that may temporarily help you get rid of the problem.

Firstly, clear the cache data on the Google One app and log in to your account once again. Doing so might help you use the service for a few days without any occasional hiccups.

If that doesn’t work for you, then you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your device.

We do hope that Google resolves the persistent bug as soon as possible so that users can reap the benefits of the VPN service.

That said, we will keep an eye on the issue where the Google One VPN is still not working for some Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users and update this story as we come across any new information.

Update 1 (February 10, 2023)

02:59 pm (IST): The issue with Google One VPN reportedly persists even after the Android 13 QPR2 beta 3.1 update.
