Here’s the crux of the article in video form

Forspoken is an action role-playing game developed by Square Enix and first unveiled on consoles as a PS5 exclusive. The PC release of the game followed soon after.

However, it seems that things rather started on the wrong foot for the game as it exhibited immense confusion among players. It even had obnoxious PC specs requirements.

Forspoken crashing at startup

And now, a number of players (1,2,3,4,5,6) are reporting an issue where the game is crashing for them at startup as well as during the intro cutscene.

I waited hours for the Forspoken demo to download just for this mf to keep crashing before reaching the main menu. 😕

Have a 6950 XT, got this game free with it, you’d think it’d be tested enough to get past the damn intro cutscene. Crashed every time (about 6-7 attempts) over the course of 8 hours.

Reports suggest that the frequent crashes have made the game almost unplayable and sometimes won’t even let them progress past the first few minutes.

What further adds to players’ frustration is that instead of smoothly running the game, it’s giving them various errors.

Some of these are as follows: ‘DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG’, ‘D3D12 ERROR’, and ‘File was broken, please try re-install’.

This is incredibly frustrating for players as even when players click anywhere on the screen, the game crashes and eventually prevents them from entering the settings too.

Potential workarounds

We have come across some workarounds that can help players fix the issue temporarily. You can check it out below.

You can also try to disable XMP profile and reset RAM back up normal speed. Has been issue on other games at release day until first patches from game and amd/nvidia drivers.

It appears that the game is allegedly crashing owing to a RAM-related issue. So, one of the players switched RAM sticks to resolve the problem.

Some are also able to solve the crashing issues by verifying the integrity files on steam.

Mines did this exact same thing. I verified integrity files on steam and now everything is good. I’m able to change the settings without crashing. It’s weird because I just had a fresh downloaded game 😂

Unfortunately, the developers haven’t commented on the crashing issue in Forspoken, so affected players can only try the workarounds mentioned above for now.

We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.
