Back in 2021, the shooting of a movie called ‘Rust’ turned into a horrific tragedy when the lead actor in the movie, Alec Baldwin, by a twist of fate, shot dead cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set and also injured director Joel Souza.

Following the incident, scriptwriter Mamie Mitchell filed a lawsuit against Alec Baldwin and others in November 2021 claiming that they failed to keep the set safe. However, Baldwin denied to the allegations.

Baldwin further clarified that he had no idea that the gun was loaded and didn’t realize it killed Hutchins and injured the director Souza until several hours after the incident. As a result, the shooting of the movie was called off.

Will ‘Rust’ movie be canceled

Fast forward to now, prosecutors, on January 19, 2023, have announced that Alec Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed each will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

This has led to many fans doubt if the Rust movie will ever be released. Some folks are sharing (1, 2) their views on social media saying why the live rounds were being used in a shooting and that it wasn’t Baldwin’s fault (1, 2).

Meanwhile, others believe that equal charges should be pressed against everyone on the set.

Fans are now anticipating (1, 2, 3) that the ‘Rust’ will be canceled, while others are still waiting for it and asking when it will be released.

And it seems that the movie could still release despite the charges. A new report suggests that the shooting of ‘Rust’ may resume in January, but not in the state of New Mexico where the incident took place.
