[Updated] Google Search app missing 'Recent pages' option, issue escalated for investigation

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 17, 2023) follows:

The Google Search app helps keep users informed and up to date about things that are of concern to them.

It makes it easy for one to find quick answers, explore their interests, surf or browse through news, magazines, and much more.

Google Search app missing ‘Recent pages’ option

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6), some users are unable to view the recent pages option in the Google Search application.

It is displayed at the top inside the app’s general settings pane along with various other options such as autocomplete settings, the Discover option, auto-play video preview options, and much more.

But for some reason, perhaps a recently released app update, the option has disappeared mysteriously. Some also complain that it has become impossible for them to disable or turn off the setting as well.

Due to this issue, people are having trouble clearing the traces of recently visited web pages. This makes some feel that their privacy is violated.

I need help on how to access my “recent pages” on Google search. It used to give me the option to do so on the profile menu but now it’s not there. Please guide me on how to get this option back.

The screen that shows a list of items in google ex. Reminders, your data in search, settings etc. Recent no longer is displayed.

When I click my profile picture to go to the Recent button, there is no recent button and I want it back.

Such a controversial step has raised questions for the company regarding user privacy, who are now requesting the company to bring back the option to the Google app.

Fortunately, a product expert on the support forums has escalated the issue for further investigation, but Google is yet to get back with an official word on the matter.

Also, Android users should make sure that they are not running the beta version of the app, as it is quite possible that the company is experimenting with some features or working on a new and enhanced one.

That said, we’ll keep an eye on the issue where the ‘Recent pages’ option is missing from the Google Search app and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.

Update 1 (January 19, 2023)

02:12 pm (IST): Google Search team has reportedly confirmed that the ‘Recent pages’ option has been intentionally removed from the Google app.
