New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on December 24, 2021) follows:

Released in January of 2021, the Motorola Moto One 5G Ace is a mid-range device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G with Android 10 out of the box.

That being said, Motorola recently announced in a blog post that the phone will be updated to Android 12 with the build scheduled to roll out sometime in February of 2022.

If we take a look at some of the variants in the U.S. such as T-Mobile and AT&T, we can see that the devices last received Android 10 security updates on August 5 and May 25 at least going by their respective software update pages.

However, it is interesting to note that Motorola Moto One 5G Ace only bagged the Android 11 update in a few regions such as Canada while the Verizon model in the U.S was released with Android 11 pre-installed.

Now, Moto One 5G Ace owners are wondering if and when their devices will be upgraded to Android 11 since the OS was released in September last year.

So Motorola announced that the Moto One 5G Ace will get Android 12, which is great. But us Google Fi peeps are stuck on Android 10 with it… Other carriers have it on Android 11. I just don’t understand how the carrier that literally is the maker of Android has a phone stuck on an older version. And some people will be on Android 12 with the 5G Ace while we’re stuck on 10.

It’s a newly released phone (January 14th 2021). If an updated OS is not coming to a brand spanking new phone, Motorola has some serious explaining to do. Aside from just features, new OS’s have more security features and typically better battery life. For the life of the phone (typically 3 years of support from any company releasing a phone), for it to not once get an OS update is absurd.

If you check the official Motorola page for software updates, it says that the phone is expected to receive Android 12 and is currently pending partner approval.

Owners are frustrated since Motorola hasn’t provided any timeline for the release of Android 11 for the phone in other regions.

We hope the smartphone manufacturer sheds some light on the matter and let Moto 5G Ace users stuck on Android 10 know when they will be getting the Android 11 treatment.

That being said, we will update this space as and when required, so stay tuned for more information.

In the meantime, you can check out our dedicated Motorola Android 12 update tracker to see if you device will be updated to Android 12.

Update 1 (January 13, 2022)

03:55 pm (IST): An administrator on the Motorola community forum said that the Android 11 update for Moto One 5G Ace is delayed due to issues discovered with several carriers.

Moreover, he said that the team is working on resolving those issues and provide the update as soon as possible. However, they did not provide any ETA as to when actually the update will be available.

Moto US said that they are maintaining its partners pending approval and that the Moto One 5G Ace will be getting both the Android 11 and Android 12 update but as of now there are no timings available.

Update 2 (January 21, 2022)

04:27 pm (IST): Motorola users can also check for the latest update status of their device on the official update tracker.

Meanwhile, the Moto One 5G Ace’s Android 11 update is still awaited and the OEM has also promised the Android 12 update without sharing any timelines. All users can do is wait until these updates become available.

Update 3 (February 04, 2022)

01:03 pm (IST): Even if the Moto One 5G Ace remains stuck on Android 10, users can try out a custom ROM to experience the Android 11 OS. And here’s the Lineage OS 18.1 based on Android 11 along with a video tutorial on how to install.

Update 4 (February 19, 2022)

06:16 pm (IST): Google has already released Android 13 for developers, while Motorola is still stuck on Android 11. The company is yet to release two-year-old Android OS for some of its devices.

And now, in a fresh response to Moto One 5G users on the community forum, a Senior Moto Agent still says that the update is in the development stage and they can’t provide any ETA.

We know it’s hard to wait. There are many variables in developing and testing software – that’s why we can’t give dates, but when it’s ready we’ll roll it out to all eligible devices as quickly as possible. (Source)

Update 5 (February 22, 2022)

06:07 pm (IST): Responding to a user’s query, Verizon Support on Twitter says that they have released the Android 11 update for Motorola One 5G UW Ace.

However, the official software update page for this handset does not mention any information regarding Android 11 update.

Update 6 (May 12, 2022)

11:51 am (IST): Motorola is now rolling out the Android 11 update for Moto One 5G Ace users in the US. Moreover, it’s also available on Xfinity locked units.

Thanks for the tip: Jenney Jacobs & Marty Schara!

Update 7 (January 18, 2023)

06:30 pm (IST): While Motorola Moto One 5G Ace users still haven’t received the Android 12 update, support keeps assuring users that the update is pending the partner’s approval and might still arrive.

However, the device has already completed its 2 years of the update support period. That means, it won’t receive any software update after January.
