Twitter is once again the talk of the town, thanks to one of its controversial features, the ‘cropped image previews’.

Back in 2021, the social media platform made some major changes by adding new features and removing old ones.

For instance, Twitter acquired Revue with the viewpoint of enhancing the experience for writers across the globe.

Such an addition to the platform made it easy for writers to better connect with their readers and new subscribers from different regions.

Also, with the aim of revamping the popular social media platform, Twitter ended up removing one of its popular features — cropped image previews.

Even though this allowed one to have their images displayed as they were shot (full frame), the decision was still not well received by some people.

Back then, some felt sad because its removal meant that the user-uploaded images would no longer automatically crop in the previews.

Now, after facing backlash from its users for quite some time, Twitter has finally decided to roll out the ‘cropped image previews’ feature yet again.

The full-size image previews have now been replaced with the ‘cropped image previews’ feature. However, it appears that this decision hasn’t been well received by users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10).

Some feel that the re-introduced crop feature is even worse than the original ‘cropped images preview’ feature, as an uploaded photo now appears even more absurd on a first glance than it would back in 2021.

Twitter bringing back cropped image previews annoys me so much. I didn’t realize how much better it was with full frame previews.

Users complain that each uploaded image now has a drastically cropped thumbnail that completely ruins one’s presentation or any picture for that matter.

I rlly hope this was unintentional and gets reverted back… literally nobody asked for this.

Why would they revert back to cropped images ? It’s the worst. Forced to open every single picture to see the whole thing. It’s insane.

The rollout seems to be a mess for some artists and art lovers as well, as it degrades the experience of looking at a work of art.

We hope that Twitter will listen to the users’ requests and make some changes to the reintroduced cropped image previews feature.

Update 1 (January 12, 2023)

11:45 am (IST): Responding to a user on Twitter, Elon Musk also said that he didn’t like the change where images appear cropped.

Moreover, Twitter support has confirmed that they are aware of this bug and working to resolve it.

Did you post an image, video, or gif and it got cropped? Sorry about that. We’re working to fix an issue on iOS that led to some media cropping on your timeline. As soon as it’s fixed, we’ll let you know. (Source)

Update 2 (January 16, 2023)

10:01 am (IST): According to Elon Musk, the fix to the ‘cropped image previews’ in the Twitter app will arrive this week.
