Steam provides an array of automatic game updating and game streaming services. It also lets users access community features such as friends messaging and in-game chat.

But recently, Steam users (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) are left struggling with a persistent verification issue where they are unable to login, modify or create an account.

Reports from affected users suggest that the verification issue is simply due to reasons related to captcha. The captcha either gets stuck in a loop or starts showing an error message.

I am trying to create a new Steam Account for my family. I cannot get past Recaptcha. I go through the process, pick the pictures, it shows the check box for successful completion, but when I submit the form I get a Recaptcha error. This happens every time, on every device I use.

Why doesn’t stupid re-Captcha work. I’ve restarted this, cleared my data a cookies cache from the browser I used to install it, and Captcha still doesn’t work. Any ideas to fix this. Yeah be refreshed multiple times too.

The issue is rather troublesome because the captcha isn’t passed even if users enter the correct characters.

This has prevented users from accessing their accounts or creating new ones, which of course, is a big problem.

Potential workaround

Fortunately, we’ve come across a few workarounds that can help fix the issue temporarily. These workarounds mostly include blocking or stopping security software.

For another user, switching to a different browser helped solve the issue with Steam not verifying the captcha.

So far there is no official word from Steam at the moment. But you can surely try and find your way around the issue where Steam is not verifying captcha with the help of the above-mentioned workarounds.

That said, we will keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when anything noteworthy comes up.

Update 1 (August 26)

12:02 pm (IST): Some Steam users are again reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) the issue where they are unable to create or access their accounts due to captcha verification bug. Unfortunately, the support team hasn’t yet acknowledged the problem.

01:09 pm (IST): The captcha verification bug has resurfaced yet again and is preventing users from creating accounts on Steam (1,2,3,4,5,).
