New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on September 30, 2022) follows:

Developed by Apple, HomeKit is a framework that connects various smart home gadgets like lights, locks, cameras, thermostats, plugs, and more.

Users can then manage their HomeKit-compatible devices and perform activities like naming their gadgets, designating rooms, and creating schedules through the Home App.

However, it seems that various automated tasks are currently not working on devices running iOS 16.

HomeKit automations not working on iOS 16

Many users (1,2,3,4,5) are experiencing an issue where HomeKit automations are not working after the iOS 16 update.

Has anyone else encountered this? When I test them, they do work, but not at the time they should run (they never run). Location based automation also stopped triggering.

Here in NZ daylight savings kicked in this last weekend, and since then none of my time-based automations will trigger. I’ve tried disabling and re-enabling but they just won’t work. Anyone know how to resolve this?

The automations works fine when the ‘Test This Automation’ button is pressed. But they stop working when they are supposed to work at a pre-defined time.

There are also some cases where time-specific (like opening a shutter at a particular time) automations are triggered randomly.

Affected users have tried disabling and re-enabling their HomeKit automations but to no avail. Removing all smart devices and re-adding them don’t seem to fix the issue either.

Potential workaround

Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t acknowledged the issue where HomeKit automations are not working. However, we have come across a workaround that can help fix the issue temporarily.

It involves deleting the current ‘Home’ profile and starting everything from scratch.

We’ll keep tabs on further developments and update the article accordingly.
