Back in January 2022, Twitter announced a way for its users to show off their NFT collection. All they need to do was connect their crypto wallet with Twitter.

Once they have done that, a hexagonal border appeared instead of a circle around their profile picture and other users can click on the picture for info about the associated NFT.

This can be seen in the official Twitter Blue account profile:

This feature is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers and became quite popular among the user base due to the high level of interest in NFT at the time.

However, following the relaunch of the latest Twitter Blue, changing profile pictures will result in the checkmark being revoked, followed by a review, according to the official statement:

Once subscribed to Twitter Blue, changes to your profile photo, display name, or username (@handle) will result in the loss of the blue checkmark until the account is validated as continuing to meet our requirements, and no further changes will be allowed during this review period.

Changing NFT profile picture revokes Twitter Blue checkmark

The same is happening in the case of NFT PFPs as well. Users say that after changing their NFT profile picture, it revokes their Twitter Blue checkmark (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

Some Twitter users like changing their profile pictures on a regular basis. This, however, removes their Blue checkmark until the account is validated.

This is due to a new Twitter Blue subscription rule that states that any change to a profile picture, including NFT PFPs, results in the removal of the Blue checkmark.

This has annoyed several Twitter Blue users, who believe they already paid to have the option to showcase their NFTs. This new rule, however, restricts them from changing it periodically.

Users request an exemption in this policy for NFT profile pictures, as they are required to undergo a new review for validation every time they change them.

@elonmusk @verified I signed up long ago to Twitter blue because I can use NFTs as a profile picture. I change them often. Now My Twitter verified is gone for a moment because I utilized Twitter blue NFT profile pic. A paid service. I think that should not be the case withNFT

Yeah I’m waiting for my blue check mark to come back. I understand about changing names but it should not apply to changing PFP’s

While some understand the rationale behind removing the checkmark on the name change, it should not apply to NFT PFPs. The subscription has already received a lot of criticism, with some questioning if it is really worth it.

Elon Musk has always strived to address Twitter users’ grievances, so we hope he can do so again and allow them greater freedom with NFT PFPs.

We’ll keep an eye on this matter and update this story to reflect noteworthy information.
