Spotify is most people’s favorite music streaming service thanks to its extensive catalog of songs, albums, and even podcasts.

You can use Spotify on many platforms, either through the website or through dedicated clients (available for Android, iOS, Windows and macOS.

However, some users have been experiencing recurring issues with music playback. More specifically, Spotify app is pausing, stopping or skipping music during playback (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13).

The problem in question is not exactly new, since there are reports from several years ago describing similar situations. The company even acknowledged the error at that time.

However, some users are still facing the problem even to this day. Music keeps randomly pausing by itself during playback, and in some cases the playlist songs are automatically skipped or jump to a random minute.

Spotify keeps pausing

I have the Spotify app on a Galaxy s20 plus. I no longer pay for the Spotify service, and they constantly balls. Ads play fine, but song pause at least three to five times. I have tried to clear the app cache and data, as well as system cache, and nothing is helping. Does anyone have any suggestions?

After the outage, Spotify is randomly playing while I don’t have the app open, my songs are skipping themselves, or jumping to random points, or pausing randomly!

Some potential solutions

That said, there are some potential solutions that could help resolve or mitigate issues during music playback on Spotify.

First, you can try to disable the power saving options applied on the Spotify app. These options can be located in different paths of the settings menu according to your device OS or custom UI.

Hey folks, for those of you who are still experiencing this issue we’d recommend the following:

Some Android phones have Battery Optimization enabled by default. This can hinder the performance of apps such as Spotify. This is why we’d suggest disabling it.

You can also try to clear the Spotify app cache on your device. Another tip is to make sure that other family members or friends who have access to your Spotify account are not using it at the same time as you.

Poor network coverage or slow Wi-Fi could be another cause of the issue. In this case, you can change the audio quality settings in the Spotify app by following these steps:

Finally, make sure that an unknown person has not gained access to your Spotify account, which you can resolve simply by changing your access credentials.

Related to the above, it would also be very useful if Spotify finally implements the much-demanded 2FA to strengthen account security. It is surprising that a service that stores personal data of millions of users does not yet support 2FA.

There is still no new official acknowledgment from the Spotify team about these problems. We will update this story once new events arise in the future.

Update 1 (July 29)

02:05 pm (IST): Many Spotify subscribers are again reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) the issue where audio playback suddenly stops on Android.

Luckily, Spotify support has acknowledged the issue and said that they are currently investigating it.

Update 2 (December 12)

09:54 am (IST): Some Spotify users (1,2,3,4,5) are reporting an issue where their playlists/songs are randomly getting paused or stopped. They have to restart the app in order to listen to the music again.
