The Google Messages app has come a long way since its inception. Users can now watch YouTube videos within Messages without ever leaving the app, making it more than simply an SMS viewing app.

It’s also available on the Web, where it combines SMS and RCS to create a viable messaging service. It can be accessed with Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge.

Google Messages users unable to see OTP texts

However, there has been an issue with viewing OTP messages in Google Messages for Web over the past few months (1,2,3,4,5).

The affected Google Messages users say that they are unable to see OTP texts and get an error message that says “For your security View this message on your phone”.

This is becoming a nuisance, as most users use SMS service to view OTPs. It beats the purpose of a Web app if the OTPs are masked and user has to view it on their mobile devices.

Users who must log in to their accounts several times prefer to access these messages on Google messages on the web since it is more convenient for them.

Some of my messages received have started to be unreadable in my Chrome web browser. In place of the actual message it says, “View on your phone.” Of course it is viewable directly on my phone. But, I’m finding it a bit annoying and would like to know what the reason actually is. Thanks.
