iOS 16 Lock Screen weather widget not updating or blank for some

Apple went all out when it comes to the Lock Screen in iOS 16. Users now have a variety of additional animation options for notifications, as well as the option to show Live Activities on their Lock Screen.

Lock Screen widgets got a facelift as well. You can choose to display information like the weather, time, date, battery level, alarm, and more.

But according to reports, many iPhone users are facing an issue where the weather widget on the lock screen is showing a blank line and is not updating (1,2,3).

Affected iPhone owners say it just won’t show weather information on the Lock Screen even with all required permissions enabled.

Instead of displaying a given location’s weather information, the widget only shows ‘Weather unavailable’ error message or a gray bar.

This issue seems to have popped up recently after iOS 16.1.1 update and seems to persist even after the recent iOS 16.2 beta 3.

Same issue here. I am on 14 Pro with 16.2 beta 3 and can’t get the temperature to show. Messed with the weather permissions for location, restarted phone all to no avail.

While with iOS 16 Apple has gone leaps and bounds, some users have faced issues like iPhone not charging, wallpaper turning black or disappearing, and so on.

Regrettably, Apple is yet to formally acknowledge the issue, therefore there is no ETA for when a fix will come.

Having said that, we will continue to monitor any new information on the iOS 16 Lock Screen weather widget not updating issue and update this article as required.
