New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 4, 2022) follows:

Twitter works in such a way that it shows you the most related tweets based on your likes and interests.

However, there have also been instances where a broken algorithm fails to fulfill that purpose.

Now blame this on algorithms or Elon Musk, but it seems that Twitter is now plagued with ads.

Many Twitter users (1,2,3,4,5,6) have been reporting an issue where they are seeing a considerable number of ads ever since Elon Musk takeover.

Can’t tell if I’m just noticing things or inventing them in my head but it feels like there are wayyyyyyy more ads on Twitter all of a sudden.

Is twitter spamming you with too many ads these days. If this continues I’m leaving 🥲

According to reports, Twitter is currently flooded with an abnormally high number of ads that are not even remotely related to the kind of accounts that users follow.

The issue is quite frustrating because these ads are taking a significant part of their timelines, preventing them from viewing as many tweets from followed accounts.

Potential workarounds

We have come across workarounds that can help fix the issue temporarily. It involves blocking ads from the handles that display them.

I’ve been blocking every handle whose ads I get on Twitter and the ads have significantly reduced

Users can also try the following workaround in order to get rid of the ads.

Making a private list for the followed accounts will help users avoid ads as well.

Handy trick to avoid seeing ads: Put the accounts you follow the most into a private List. (Or all the accounts you follow, or several lists by categories.) Just view your feed by clicking on the List. (Elon will probably kill all Lists next, now that I’ve posted this loophole.)

Unfortunately, Twitter hasn’t acknowledged the issue yet so users will have to wait indefinitely for a potential fix. We hope that the team comes up with a resolution at the earliest.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on further developments and update the article accordingly.
