If you have the desire to conquer the world, you can do it virtually in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. It is a turn-based strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games.

Civilization recently celebrated its 31st birthday, and the giveaway challenge included an Intel(R) CORE i9 Processor.

The game is available on multiple platforms like Nintendo Switch, Android, Microsoft Windows, Mac operating systems many more.

Civilization VI crashing or unplayable

Well, now it is coming to light that there might be an issue with this game. According to reports, many Civilization VI players say that the game keeps crashing or has become unplayable (1,2,3,4,5).

The impacted players claim that when they launch the game and attempt to load a prior save file, the game crashes. This occurs even in multiplayer game mode.

Some gamers suspected that mods were to blame for the crash. So they deactivated them and ran the game, which functioned well but only for a few turns before crashing again.

Mods do not appear to be the root of this issue, since many players report that it began following the macOS 13 Ventura update.

@2KSupport Sooo, bit awkward … but CIV VI is currently unplayable for those who upgraded to Mac OS Ventura. Thought it was just me but based on my reddit post, turns out it’s not just me. I can’t see any official acknowledgement of this… ? Ticket #11243253.

Has anyone else run into problems when trying to start games on MacOS – specifically after an OS update? Getting to the lobby screen is fine, but once the game begins it crashes immediately. Disabling mods allowed the game to run perfectly yesterday, but today it seems I’m back to square one.

Some users tried troubleshooting methods like verifying game files, disabling all unofficial mods, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the game doesn’t seem to fix this issue.

Memory leaks are thought to be a possible cause of this issue since many gamers receive an error stating that the application has run out of memory after crashing on their Mac.

No matter what players try, they are unable to overcome the crashing issue that has rendered the game unplayable for many. As a result, we hope the developers will release a patch as soon as possible.

That said, we will update this article once new developments emerge.
