New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on October 24, 2022) follows:
Starting October 28, COD: Modern Warfare 2 will be available to all. Meanwhile, those who pre-ordered the game have already been enjoying the campaign mode.
Thanks to this early access, players have detected some problems to fix. There are reports of a constant crashing issue, while for other players the progress resets when exiting the game.
To facilitate the migration of players from the previous MW (2019), the new MW2 includes a tool to import settings. This negates the need for players to re-tweak some game settings from scratch.
However, many Modern Warfare 2 players have noticed that the ‘import settings’ feature is locked or not available, but this could have an explanation.
Modern Warfare 2 import settings currently locked or not available
Many Modern Warfare 2 players are reporting that they cannot use the ‘import settings’ option as it appears as ‘locked’ in the menu. This means that all personal preferences must be tweaked again in the game settings.
Personal preferences mainly include controller settings. But graphics settings will also have to be adjusted from scratch.
Is anyone having issues with importing settings?
As title asks anyone else having issues? I’m not able to import settings it seems. I just have the lock icon on all games. I own MW and Cold War. Had no issues with Cold War having my MW controls but I am with MW2. On PC

Import settings
I am trying to import my settings from warzone into modern warfare 2. The option is locked to import settings from any previous call of duty’s. Does anyone else have that issue or knows how to solve it? PS. I am playing on PC.

Here’s what we know
Some players have suggested what the explanation for this issue could be. Currently, the COD: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mode is not available (until October 28).
So, MW2 developers could be waiting for the full-game release to unlock the option. In this way, the ‘import settings’ option will also impact the multiplayer settings.
So, for now the best option to migrate your personal settings to MW2 is through the classic ‘photo method’. That is, take a pic of your Modern Warfare 1 settings screen and use it to manually set Modern Warfare 2 settings.
Can’t access MP yet so it probably won’t port settings over as it needs access to MP. Better off taking pics of your old settings and doing them yourself for now.

We will update this story as new developments on the matter emerge.
Update 1 (October 28, 2022)
09:53 am (IST): Some players are still reporting (1, 2, 3) that the import settings function is still not available for them even though the multiplayer experience is out in some regions.
Update 2 (October 31, 2022)
04:48 pm (IST): It seems that some players did get the option to import settings from previous games like Warzone.
You can’t import settings? Before I started playing the campaign I had that option to import from Warzone. (Source)
